Always Go Go Go

…to bring you to the moment. Here is my one and only goal today. Stop. Just stop. Stop making lists, stop writing down thoughts, organizing vitamins, cleaning your yoga mat, emailing that friend, coming up with new goals and new manifestos and more insights. Stop the brain from running. Every time it skips two or three things down the line I’m saying, “hey you, get back here!” Now I’m typing. Now I am breathing. Now I am thinking of what I will write next. Stop sprinting to the end of the finish line. I race through things as a form of self-protection and since this whole quarantine thing- I’ve been speeding through morning to night. I wind up losing my breathe and then googling symptoms. Here are my new rules for today. Limit coffee to two cups. Limit news to one hour in total. Drop all the things you want to accomplish. My goal is not to accomplish. If I do nothing today I did a good job. This is a revolutionary thought. I’ve been doing all the mindful things mindlessly. I write, I meditate, I mantra and then I race on. No Bevan. You can do nothing today. Read your work emails. Write ideas. Fine. But one thing at a time. We are not trying to win any awards here. We are focusing on breath and presence. Now I will go for a walk. And I will focus on walking. Then I’ll write. Wait stop. I’m doing it again. Bring it back. No planning. Just presence. Don’t feed the fear, feed the presence. Don’t focus on the to-dos focus on the here and nows. We’ve got this.
